There has been an unprecedented number of large planning applications for developments across the Stillorgan Ward over the past two years. I am not opposed to development and understand that due to the current housing crisis we need to build more homes. Many applications across the Stillorgan Ward however, were not suitable for the area and I duly lodged a number of objections.
In 2016, I organised a public meeting with Minister Shane Ross, T.D., which as well attended, outlining our concerns. I am particularly aggrieved at the proposed legislation that will allow developers go directly to An Bord Pleanála if their application is for more than 100 units. This is undemocratic and unfair. I believe that residents should have an opportunity to make an observation to their local authority Planning Dept. before an appeal is made to An Bord Pleanála.
The future of the Irish Glass Bottle Site in Goatstown caused concern to many residents in the area so Cllr. Seamas O'Neill and I put a motion on the agenda of the recent County Development Plan that would prevent largescale development on the site. Ideally we would like to see it used for much needed recreational purposes.
