I am concerned by the rise in crime across the Stillorgan Ward and the wider county over the last number of years. Unfortunately some residents have become victims of 'rogue traders' who gain their trust by offering to do work on their house i.e. roof repairs. I believe that legislation should be introduced preventing 'cold call' selling of this nature. In 2014, I visited Hull Council in England where this is in operation and has proven very effective and welcome a similar system here in Ireland.
Since the closure of the station in early 2013 I have actively supported Minister Ross's widespread campaign to have it re-opened and assisted in the organisation of a number of public meetings. Since then Minister Shane Ross and Independent Cllr. Kevin Daly have continued to campaign for its re-opening. The increase in crime and the anti-social behaviour in the area clearly demonstrates the need for a strong Garda presence and I fully support my Independent colleagues' efforts in relation to this.
